Mara Kimowitz – Facing the Same Fitness Obstacles of Every Other Mom

Mara Kimowitz is a mother of 2 (soon to be 3), a dancer and a certified personal trainer.

She gained more than the recommended weight during her pregnancies, and has been able to get back into her pre-pregnancy shape within 6 months each time – thanks to breastfeeding and innovative exercises.

She conducts fitness workshops for mommies, has written a book, and also writes at www.lilbootieguide.com.

 

The Beginning

At age nineteen, Mara became a professional dancer and worked with Mark Morris Dance Group and Metropolitan Opera of New York City. She eventually became a Pilates Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer in New York City.

Mara quickly realized that the fitness industry was under-educated about, not compassionate towards, nor understanding the unique challenges and pressures a woman faces once she becomes a mother.

With a passion to promote maternal well-being, Mara was inspired to step away from her dance career in New York City to begin working with prenatal and postpartum clientele in Hoboken, NJ.

 

Becoming a Mom

After several years of working with moms before, after and into motherhood, Mara became a mom of a daughter in 2009 and a son in 2011. She is expecting baby number 3 in 2013.

Just like every other mom-to-be, Mara gained weight, forty pounds to be exact! She quickly learned that even with all of her own experience and knowledge, that getting back into shape after baby was going to be a challenge.

Mara was faced with the common obstacles of sleep-deprivation, lack of time to commit to a regular exercise routine, and the other demands of motherhood.

Mara decided to become a full-time stay-home mom and discontinued working with private clients.

She soon realized that her clients were left without any other resources for getting back into shape and also desired a resource for herself after her own babies were born.

Mara decided to design a fitness program that was realistic, practical, safe and successful for moms to use after baby. Mara combined her knowledge of Pilates, dance, weight training, and maternal well-being to create the Lil’ Bootie Workout.

Mara used the exercises in the Lil’ Bootie Workout to get back into after her own babies and now shares these tools with other moms through her book, Lil' Bootie Guide - Postnatal Fitness for a New Mom as well as workshops and classes.
